The Project

Provide legal services and information to unaccompanied immigrant children in Los Angeles County and create a comprehensive referral network including schools and social service providers.

The Inspiration

Need Addressed By Project: 
cSince Fall 2013, a surge of unaccompanied immigrant children (UC) have arrived at the US southwestern borders, fleeing violence and poverty in Central America. UC legal service providers and greater collaboration with schools and social service providers to ensure that UCs obtain the help to which they are entitled.
The Right Person For This Project: 
Cindy is the right person for the project because:
• She is a native Spanish speaker and comes from a Spanish-speaking low-income immigrant community; she has been serving these communities since she graduated from college
• She is experienced in providing “Know Your Rights” presentations in Spanish from her work with the Self-Help Resource Center in Los Angeles and the San Francisco Bar Association’s Attorney of the Day program in the San Francisco Immigration Court
