Equal Justice Works to Honor Thomas J. Sabatino, Jr. of Walgreen Co. With 2014 “Scales Of Justice” Award at Annual Dinner
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: October 20, 2014
WHAT: Thomas J. Sabatino, Jr., Executive Vice President, Chief Administrative Officer and General Counsel for Walgreen Co., will receive the “Scales of Justice” Award at the Equal Justice Works 2014 Annual Dinner on Wednesday, October 22, 2014.
Sabatino is being recognized his extraordinary commitment and leadership on pro bono, diversity, and public service. He has been a champion of pro bono efforts at each of the law departments he has led, expanding participation by all legal professionals. Most recently, the very first Walgreens pro bono program was launched in 2013 at Sabatino’s insistence. Those efforts already involves over one-third of Walgreens’ attorneys, who have participated in legal clinics with several different nonprofit organizations.
Sabatino’s commitment to diversity began when he became General Counsel of Baxter in 1997 and worked with several female managers in the law department. He spearheaded Baxter’s “Preferred Partner Network,” and insisted that at least one relationship partner from each firm working with Baxter was either female or an attorney of color. His successful diversity initiatives continued in his next position at Schering-Plough, where he more than doubled the number of female and minority attorneys in four and a half years.
One of the largest gatherings of public interest law supporters in the country, the event raises funds for Equal Justice Works projects and programs. Fred Hassan, Partner and Managing Director of Warburg Pincus LLC, will present the award.
