A public defense career started with Public Defender Corps

Fellow Friday: Summer Corps Alum Timothy Chapman and AmeriCorps JD News

As the Veterans Legal Corps gets underway, many new Fellows are out in the field serving our returning military members in need of legal aid. In addition to the full-time fellowships, the Veterans Legal Corps also offers funding to law students who want to serve veterans during the school year or in the summer. AmeriCorps JD (formerly Summer Corps) is the program for those students. The deadline to apply for spring semester funding is January 15, and the deadline to apply for summer funding is April 15. Students can gain invaluable experience learning the ins and outs of working at a legal aid office. One such student was Timothy Chapman, a veteran himself and a Summer Corps member from the class of 2012. Below you will find his story.
